Our colors for the wedding are different shades of peach and just some white here and there. Our cake is going to be peach colored and we are having peach rose petals. We actually want to use roses for decoration on the cake but we have concerns. I read some where that roses wilt quickly when not in water. I also read that you have to get special roses that are grown pesticide-free (or something like that). I'm wondering if you do have to get special rose and where do you find them? Also, how fast does the roses on a cake wilt? Can you tell that they are wilted? And if roses aren't the best choice for a cake what would be a would still go with peach and rose petals?
What flowers are best for wedding cakes?
You do need to get pesticide free roses, otherwise your cake will taste funny and people might get sick.
However, I've been to several weddings lately that have used roses on the cake, and they've all lasted through the end of the night. I haven't seen any other flowers used, at least in person. I think roses are the best bet -- they look the best too.
If you want to see other flower possibilities, check out theknot.com's photo gallery for cake pictures. There are tons! I got a lot of ideas from there.
Good luck with the wedding planning!
Reply:You do not have to get special roses. I'm doing a cake covered in roses %26amp; my florist offered that, for cost reasons, she would be happy to decorate the cake still if I wanted to get the roses somewhere cheaper %26amp; even suggested a place like Wal Mart. I ended up just getting them from the florist, but she told me even the cheaper ones they sell at stores %26amp; such will last through the day on the cake without problem.
Reply:why don't you just go with realistic looking fondant roses? that way you know they aren't poisoned with pesticides and they would probably be easier to find and can be made in any color that you like
Reply:There really is no BEST flowers for wedding cakes. It depends on you and your desires or if you have a "wedding planner", they should have great ideas. I have used roses, lilies, geraniums, magnolias, daisies and several more varieties. You do not have to go with just ONE kind either. Also, you can use fondant flowers, "icing" flowers, silk flowers, OR real ones. You can find silk ones that look almost real, but you have to go somewhere besides WalMart. I would upload a few pictures but my scanner, aand printer have both bit the dust recently. Just type in "pictures of wedding cakes" in your search engine and you should pull up lots of beauties...maybe even the ones that the lady PAINTS....BEAUTIFUL!!! Good luck on your decision.
Reply:This has definitely got to be a "girl" type of question!
Reply:Find yourself a really good cake decorater in your area and inquire with them about the real flowers. Aside from that, I'd suggest using a small amount of red.... If you look at a peach....it does have some red to it. Good luck.
Reply:Lillies
Reply:you can get rose petals and crystallize them. i was looking into it for my wedding. look up edible flowers, and you can find out what kind of flowers are edible, and what kinds are poisenous, and even find a recipe to make your own edible rose petals.
Reply:We used roses on our cake and they lasted through the night. Our florist made the arrangements to go on the cake. She coordinated it with our baker. She set them up with the baker at the reception hall.
