Wedding flowers?

I'm getting married next year on quite a strict budget and I would like to do my own wedding flowers but I'm not sure how to go about it. My Groom has a dark red waistcoat and my bridesmaids are in purple and lilac. I know I want Carnations in my bouquets and as buttonholes. Can anyone give me advice and know where I can get lessons to help me design and make my own wedding flowers? I live in Carlisle, Cumbria, UK

Hello , i am a florist and i know just how expensive wedding flowers are , just look through books to get some ideas , i do know hobby craft do ready made button holes and do a great selection of silk flowers , or do a picture search on the internet to get ideas if you lived closer i would teach you , maybe the local library has books to show you or find your local flower arranging club , or go to your local church and ask then who does there flowers it usually tends to be the head of the flower arranging club , hope you manage to find some help , and any questions u have please just contact me .
Reply:For my sisters wedding, we did our own bouquets, including here and all of the boutineers. It was EASY and a lot of FUN! We had all the brides maids over the night before the wedding and had a movie on and made all of our own bouquets. It made them more special.





the biggest trick is get PLENTY of floral tape and wires and DONT forget the pins. Look at some magazines, and do some test runs on how they do it. And DEFINITELY dont forget to cut the flowers under water. Make sure the stems are underwater.. they cut easier and it prolongs the life. Clean out the fridge and store them in there over night.





We ordered all the flowers online, and Im trying to remember where. Im sure you can find somewhere a lot closer. But it was definitely cheaper and mroe personal. Good Luck!
Reply:Go with the silk flowers --u can keep them forever... get flowers u like in the colors u are using and arrange them in a bouquet , carnations, roses, wrap them together w/green tape found in arts/crafts stores near flower section... and put them in the carrier of your choice you can use glue w/glue gun to hold em in..or to glue the flowers, baby's breath, etc wherever u deem fit... practice with a few first before making your wedding flowers... not so hard, we did it too..

Reply:You can get flowers dyed to any color you want. So you can easily get carnations in reds purples and white. But if you are on a low budget I would definately go for silk flowers. As nice as real flowers are they will die far too easily and that would be my major fear when doing my own flowers. If you use fake ones you can keep them for years to come!!
Reply:My sister spent hundreds on Carnations/button holes, her bouquet and the flower girls. Looked nice but price was stupid. The night before her wedding one of the bridesmaids realised that no flowers had been ordered for them. We nipped to the local florist and bought a bunch of purple flowers, long stemmed. £2,50, wrapped them up with a purple ribbon and they looked beautiful.





Try flower arranging at local night school. Paper flowers are very nice too. Be careful of artificial flowers, they can look very fake.





Good luck and enjoy, the wedding is your day so get a great maid/matron of honour and best man who can keep all the stress away.

Reply:When i got married 2yrs ago at gretna green i went into the flower shop and asked for a simple boquet with my chosen colors of my dress (ivory and burgendy) I dont like real flowers as they dont last and they fall apart. if you go into gretna green, thrers a lovely flower shop on the street neat the hairderssers and they do v.cheap boquets. Mine was nothing too flashy but very nice. is it just the cost that is why you want to make your own? mine costed £40.00 for plastic ones and it was worth it. if thats still quite deer you wont actually be able to make your own for less as flowers are deer. a single rose from a flower shop is £2.00. just stick with simple, plastic and cheap. at least plastic you can keep and it'll remind you of a lovely day.

Reply:Go to Afloral.com- they have beautiful silk flowers and tips on making bouquets and stuff. Also, marthastewart.com has tons of wedding and flower tips on their site. Good luck on your marriage!
