Who has actually done their own flowers for their wedding?

I am thinking about doing my own flowers for the wedding. Everything bouteneirs, bouquets, centerpieces. Who has done this and was it hard? Any tips you could give me would be great.

Who has actually done their own flowers for their wedding?
my maid of honor and i did mine but, we had a small wedding . good luck, and start early! we went to michaels, but hobby lobby and waccamaw are also good craft stores to shop at.
Reply:Wow, if you decided not to do your own flowers, you would cut out a HUGE amount of stress for you and everybody involved, because you want it to be a happy day. The flowers (if you're working with fresh) have to be done at the last minute, and you probably have some idea about how many "last minute" things there are to do. Here's an idea: high-quality artificial flowers (they look absolutely real - most people pick them up and try to smell or feel them - NOT available in craft stores). The best part is that you aren't stuck with a load of dying flowers at the end of the day. You rent them! You use them and send them right back to the company the week after your wedding. They are made by the company all ahead of time, you can see what you're getting ahead of time so you get exactly what you want, and many other benefits that take a large amount of stress out of your wedding day. That's what I did for my wedding. check out www.FlowersForRent.com
Reply:My sister had a pre-boot camp wedding that was pulled together in a week.

She wanted silk hydrangea bouquets. I made 'em out of a few bunches from Wal-mart. I pulled them apart and made them into a bouquet. I tied the stems together with floral tape. It was 6 yrs ago and I don't remember if the guys (groom, bestman, and ring bearer) had boutonnieres, but those are just simple to make!

If you decide to do silk, I'd recommend using a high quality flower than Wal-Mart. She had an evening wedding with low lights and no one could tell they were fake!
Reply:I am doing my own with help from one of bridesmaids. Who did all fo her own. She made my bouteneirs. For center peices I am filling med size glass bowls with colored sand and putting a candle in them. Around it is going to be glass votives we painted with glittter paint. To tye it all together It is going to sit on some kind of mirror or plat form. We are still working on that part. For the bouquests. I chose the bouquet holders for AC More and just added the flowers I like. For my bridesmaids I made kissing balls. I am goiong to get hooks to hang them off the head table during the recption. That way they are not in the girls way. While they are enjoying dinner. or flying off because of the wind. We are having an outside wedding.

My tip is look around at what you like. If something doesn't work because of size or color find something smaller or bigger that is close ot it. If you find a flower you like in white. Want it in a different color. Food coloring works great for dying. We did it with white roses. We need a few lilac ones. They came all came out unic. Which was something I wanted for the bouteniers.

It is your wedding have fun with it. Don't stick to the same old same old.
Reply:i helped do my sisters its not hard if you already have an idea of what you want it to look like. id suggest looking at wedding mags or garden mags to see pictures of what you want it to look like then you would be best off using fake flowers (less easly crushed while positioning them) and maybe throw a couple real ones in there for an extra effect. good luck have fun with it.
Reply:My Maid of Honor did mine also. I picked out all the flowers that I wanted and materials and of course paid for it. She did a beautiful job and of course she was cheap! I was very grateful. It took her one week to do all the flowers including the men's. She also made a special bouquet of flowers for my mom. It was so sweet. I would suggest that if it's someone who will be doing this from the wedding, set aside a day to go to choose the materials and flowers and tell her exactly what you would like. Have faith.
Reply:A friend and I did this for a friends wedding I was in. It is very inexpensive, and was a fun activity to do with friends. We went to Michael's to get all the supplies, and even found a book on how to do it all. You also might want to try out Hobby Lobby as well. Both places are good for supplies. This is a great idea and will save you money and will be an everlasting keepsake for you and the people involved in your wedding. I hope you have a beautiful day!
Reply:In my opinion there are certain times one should leave things to a proffesional, your wedding is one of them. I think it would be fine to attempt it if you are not the type to be stressed out easily or if the flowers aren't that important to.

There are steps you need to know that are not mentioned in how to books. You need to know how to process them and what processing method the wholesaler started with. Was is hot or cold? Do you have the time to start everything at the right time-not to late but not to soon?

If you have a small budget there are options. Most florists are willing to keep within a budget as long as it's reasonable.

It sounds like you are doing the whole event. If that is the case you really should rethink it. Good luck and best wishes for an amazing day :)
Reply:We helped my cousin do her flowers and from my experience, I never would do my own. I don't know how much money she saved but it was not worth it in the end. She had the entire family do her flower and the small flowers for the guests. It was very STRESSFUL, especially if you are going to use live flowers.

Doing your own flowers does save money but you do have more stress involve.

If you are going to do your own flower, i would practice. depending on when your wedding is, you might want to do arrangements for family dinners or friends together. you want me to make sure you get the hang of it before the big day.
