(I tried to post this once already, but it didn't post, so sorry if it posts twice)
The colors for my wedding are going to be black and silver. I will be carrying a calla lily bouquet and my fiancee will have a boutineere (sp?) to match. I'm still stuck on the flowers for the wedidng party, though. I thought that I was going to do some sort of red flower, but my fiancee said he thinks red would be too bold and take away from everything else. I'm going for something that's very pretty but understated. I'm not a fan of huge bouquets. Any ideas?
PS: (This isn't part of the question. I just wanted to rant a little) Doesn't it drive you crazy when your fiancee says that he doesn't like an idea but then doesn't offer suggestions of his own? Am I the only one with this problem?
Still stuck about the flowers for the wedding party?
Why don't you have the girls carry one single calla lily with a black ribbon tied around it.
And Yes about the PS part...get used to it!
Congrats on the wedding! :)
Reply:I like the first answer (single calla lily) but I would accent it with a red ribbon instead of black. If the bridesmaids' dresses are black/silver, I think a white calla lily with a red ribbon would show up nicely against a dark dress. I don't think a red ribbon would be too bold. It's nice to have a touch of color.
Reply:Well, you already picked cala lillies and those are white and smooth-textured, right?
I would try to think of other flowers that are also white and smooth textured (not crinkley, like carnations). Your florist can help you with this.
What about white roses? Some larger white daisies might work? White tulips? Paperwhites? I think sweet peas might come in white?

Reply:I think your fiance should keep out of your decision about flowers. Yes him to death and do whatever you want in the end. My suggestion would be a soft rasberry and a soft pink mixture of flowers (your choice and discuss with florist) then a little creamy white also, instead of red adding small green ivy leaves. The bouquets should not be so overpowering maybe satin wrapped in silver satin ribbon. You need some color and the flowers would be the best way to add it in.
Reply:Have you seen the crystal boquets? They are actually way easy to make yourself if you've got time. I would do it out of silver wire and beads with touches of black beads. Tie with a black ribbon.
Another idea you could do is the dark purple callas and accent with silver. They are almost black but not quite. Would still look good though.
As far as HTB not offering any alternatives when they nick your ideas. Gotta get used to that one. At least yours can tell you stuff like "it's too bold"....mine is more along the lines of "I dunno, I just don't want that" or offers up horrific suggestions like getting married at a Superbowl bash of the sports bar..."because they already have free food and don't charge to use the space"
Reply:I like the suggestion that krisx42 made, or also the one about using soft pink flowers. It all depends on if you want something bold or understated with the colors. As far as that goes, I think the idea of red calla lillies would look fabulous. My husband tried to veto several of my ideas, but if he didn't give me a valid reason of why not to do it, I did it anyway, and he thought our wedding turned out beautifully. Sometimes I think they do it because they think they should contribute "something" even though it's not of any use.
